Matcha Overnight Oats (Printable)

Creamy, vibrant overnight oats featuring earthy matcha and wholesome ingredients for a refreshing breakfast.

# What you'll need:

→ Oats Base

01 - 1 cup rolled oats
02 - 1 tablespoon chia seeds
03 - 1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup
04 - 1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder
05 - 1 ¼ cups milk (dairy or plant-based)

→ Toppings

06 - ½ banana, sliced
07 - 1 tablespoon toasted coconut flakes
08 - 1 tablespoon chopped almonds or pistachios
09 - Fresh berries

# Directions:

01 - In a medium bowl or jar, whisk together the milk and matcha powder until smooth and no lumps remain.
02 - Add the oats, chia seeds, and honey or maple syrup to the matcha milk mixture. Stir thoroughly to combine.
03 - Cover and refrigerate overnight, or at least 6 hours, to allow the oats to absorb the liquid and soften.
04 - In the morning, stir the oats. Add a splash of milk if a looser consistency is desired.
05 - Divide into bowls or jars. Top with banana slices, coconut flakes, nuts, and berries as desired.

# Expert Suggestions:

01 -
  • The texture becomes impossibly creamy without any cooking whatsoever
  • Matcha provides gentle energy instead of the afternoon crash I used to get from coffee
02 -
  • Matcha can leave green specks on teeth, so I always keep a glass of water nearby to swish after eating
  • The mixture will separate slightly in the refrigerator, but a quick stir brings it right back to that creamy consistency
03 -
  • Buy matcha in small quantities and store it in the freezer, as it oxidizes quickly and loses its bright flavor
  • Whisk vigorously in a zigzag motion rather than stirring in circles to break up stubborn clumps more effectively
